Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Select and prepare chemicals
   • Ink and stencil type are correctly identified and screen is assessed for suitability to be reclaimed
   • Screen reclamation chemicals are selected and prepared according to manufacturer or supplier specifications
   • Appropriate safety gear is selected and worn according to manufacturer or supplier specifications and work health and safety (WHS) requirements
2. Maintain and adjust equipment
   • Automatic cleaning equipment is inspected and routine user maintenance is carried out according to manufacturer or supplier specifications and enterprise procedures
   • Automatic cleaning equipment is adjusted to suit ink system, mesh type and frame size
3. Wash screen
   • Screens are washed using pressure gun or automatic machine in suitably ventilated area with required extraction system
   • Stains and hazes are removed using appropriate chemicals according to manufacturer or supplier specifications and WHS requirements
   • Screens are checked for damage and any defects are reported and/or rectified according to enterprise procedures
4. Store screen
   • Screens are correctly identified and labelled
   • Screens are stored in clean, dry environment according to manufacturer or supplier specifications
5. Carry out routine maintenance
   • Cleaning equipment is lubricated, cleaned and adjusted according to manufacturer or supplier specifications
   • Faults are identified, reported and/or rectified according to manufacturer or supplier specifications

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

use automatic cleaning equipment to reclaim THREE screens, with various grades of meshes and ink types, according to manufacturer guidelines and enterprise procedures, including:

selecting and using chemicals and associated safety gear

checking and adjusting automatic cleaning equipment prior to use

washing and checking screens for defects

storing screens

maintain automatic cleaning equipment, including identifying faults and taking action according to manufacturer guidelines.
